RS assessment MARK

What is My Assessment and Reporting Kit (MARK)?

MARK is a powerful online tool that enables you to:

  • input children’s scores in the on-screen marksheets
  • view gap analysis to inform teaching
  • generate reports in a few clicks.

We currently offer marksheets and reports for:

  • PiRA and PUMA – standardised termly assessments for Reading and Maths Years 1 to 6
  • Optional Tests – SATs-style whole-curriculum assessments for Reading, GPS and Maths Years 1 to 6
  • Progress Tests – formative half-termly assessments for Reading, GPS and Maths for Years 1 to 6

Please note that marksheets and reports for GAPS, our standardised termly assessments for grammar, punctuation and spelling, will not be available until spring 2018.

Access to the site is free for all schools, and there are just a few simple steps to follow to get you started.

How can we start using it?

Unlock access for all teachers in your school by placing an order for MARK through this page. Access to the site is free of charge. You will need a free My Rising Stars account to do this and will be asked to nominate a member of staff to assume the role of Access Co-ordinator before your order is complete; this is to ensure your children’s data is secure. The Access Co-ordinator can get your school set up on the site by following a few simple steps and will be able to approve access for teachers so they can enter results and generate reports.

Details of what the Access Co-ordinator and other roles are able to do in the site can be viewed here. Once the Access Co-ordinator has assigned roles for staff, they will be able to enter the platform via the MARK icon on their My Rising Stars dashboard.

You can download a step-by-step guide to getting started, or watch the helpful video walkthrough below.

If you need any more help on MARK, or would like to talk to a member of our technical support team, send us an email with the details and we’ll get in touch.

You can also visit our MARK news page to find out about scheduled downtime and to keep up to date with the latest MARK newsletters.

What can I currently do in MARK?
In addition to the user-friendly school management tool, which enables the Access Co-ordinator to give access to other teachers and to set up the children within the site, you can now access marksheets and reports for the following suites of tests: PiRA, PUMA, Optional Tests SET A, Optional Tests SET B and Progress Tests for Reading, GPS and Maths. Once you have completed the general set-up process for MARK, as outlined above, you will have access to all of these marksheets.

I can’t see the MARK icon on My Rising Stars dashboard.  Why?
You may need to unlock your access to MARK by placing a free order through the Rising Stars website. You will not be charged to do this.

1) Log in or register for a My Rising Stars account here:

2) Add the site to your basket – this is completely free of charge and can be done via this link.

3) Nominate yourself or someone else as the Access Co-ordinator.  As the Access Coordinator you will be responsible for approving teachers’ access to the site and setting up your school on MARK.  If you nominate someone else, they will need to approve your account before you can log in.

I can see the icon on my dashboard but I cannot log in.
This is probably because you have not been approved by your school’s Access Co-ordinator. To request approval, simply click on the ‘request access’ link on the log in screen of MARK.

This could also be because you have not clicked on the email verification link. This link is sent to you via email to make sure that your account is secure. Please check your spam/junk mail just in case the email landed in the wrong place.

I want to download the pupil import CSV to my computer so I can start inputting pupil data
Your school’s Access Co-ordinator can download the CSV file in the Manage > Pupils area once logged in to MARK. Once in this area they simply need to click on the button named ‘export CSV’. This will download the file to their computer to be populated with the children’s details.

I can’t log in with my username and password
In order to ensure your account remains secure and your children’s data is protected, 4 confirmation emails are sent to your inbox upon purchase. One of these emails contains an account verification link that you will need to click on to confirm your account. Please ensure to check your spam/junk email folder to see if they may have ended up in there. If not, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

I am having trouble uploading the CSV document containing pupil data
There may be a number of reasons why you are having problems uploading the document. Please check the following:

1. Ensure that your classes have been set up before trying to upload your pupils.
2. Ensure the document is saved as a CSV file.
3. Ensure that you have used the most up-to-date template by downloading the CSV file in the Manage > Pupils area and clicking on the button ‘export CSV’. Make sure to populate this file with your children’s data.
4. Ensure that all mandatory fields are completed. All mandatory fields have an asterisk next to them.
5. Ensure the fields are completed in the correct format. In order for the reporting tool to operate correctly, each cell of the CSV must be formatted correctly. You can look at an example template here for guidance.

If you are still having problems please contact us using the contact details at the bottom of this page.

I am unable to print the reports
To print a report, first save it as a PDF to your computer. You can then print the PDF as you would any other document. We are working on the functionality to be able to print directly from the site, so watch this space!

Can I edit my pupil data once I have uploaded it into the system?
To edit and manage existing pupils in MARK, you can export a CSV, make any necessary changes and re-upload.
To edit an existing user, enter ‘E’ into column A. Make sure you don’t change the USER ID in Column B.
To delete an existing user enter ‘D’ (for ‘delete’) into column A.
Please note: Only the Access Co-ordinator is able to delete users via CSV.
Once you have completed the changes you would like to make, re-upload your CSV as described above.

How can I promote children to the next year group at the end of the year?

The Access Co-ordinator can promote year groups up the school at the end of the year – moving this year’s Reception class into Year 1, and so on.

Click here to download a simple guide to promoting year groups, as well as information on managing groups.

How can I change the Access Coordinator?
If you are not the Access Co-ordinator, you will need to request the role from the existing Access Co-ordinator.
The existing Access Co-ordinator should:

1, Navigate to the Schools tab, where all the buttons should be active.
2. Select ‘Nominate AC’.
3. Choose another teacher from the dropdown list of teachers within the school.
4. The new Access Co-coordinator will receive a series of emails asking him/her to confirm that he/she will be the new Access Co-ordinator.

Can I upload my pupil data directly from SIMS?
At present, there is no functionality to do a direct transfer from SIMs. We suggest downloading the data and copying and pasting into the CSV template that can be downloaded from the Manage > Pupils area within MARK.

How can the Access Co-ordinator give access to other teachers?
On entering the site, navigate to the ‘Teacher’ tab underneath ‘Manage’ in the navigation bar on the left-hand side and then click the ‘Add teacher’ button on the bottom right-hand side.
